Mob slaughters woman in Kano for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Mohammed

A woman, whose name was given as Bridget, was murdered by an irate mob in Kano for alleged act of blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed, yesterday.   The murder, which happened at about 5.00pm, took place at Kofar Wambai market in the Kano state capital.

The woman, who was a plastic seller and did not belong to any of the market associations, was said to be with her husband when the incident occurred.

A witness said the deceased was involved in an argument with another person within the market and, in the cause of the argument, she allegedly made the remark.

It was gathered that some youths, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked her and slit her throat.

Bridget’s corpse has been deposited at the Murtala Mohamed Specialist Hospital in the state. Security sources told Daily Sun that, already, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while normalcy has returned to the area.

Kano State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Ransom Bello, confirmed Bridget’s death and expressed deep sadness over the reported nature of her death.

“I have just been notified of the very sad development,” he said.

He also added that an emergency meeting of the Christian body will hold today to determine the next line of action.
